Lady Gaga has truly made it! The singer appears on the cover of the September issue of Vanity Fair and the fashion iconoclast appears in a long, gray wig. She really does play by Gaga's rules by wearing old woman strands! She looks fantastically creepy, but oddly young and soft. She's also naked but that's nothing new for her, as she has appeared naked on several covers, including her recent Rolling Stone cover.
Some of the brilliant quips from the interview are below:
On her fans and love: "I've looked every man that I've ever dated in the eye and every woman I've ever been friends with and there will never be something that I put before my fans. It's about loving who you are. I don't want people to love me; I want them to love themselves."
On scribbling graffiti on a mucho-expensive Hermes Birkin bag with a Sharpie, considered a fashion faux pas even for someone as fashion-forward as Gaga: "The most classic and iconic bag on the planet, but my fans don't related to it because it represents something that they don't have...My fans are more iconic that this purse. And I love fashion, but I don't love it more than my fans. And that's what this bag is all about."
Her bad behavior on her NYC MLB tour at Mets and Yankees games earlier this summer: "Of course I got drunk at Yankee Stadium" and let "true New York 24-year-old Italian girl" and "slutty Italian girl" out. However, she's not worried about the bad press. "My real fans know who I truly am, and they know what I represent and what I mean, and my music and my performance is what really speaks." I guess slutty Italians aren't reserved for Jersey Shore! I kid! Gaga, I'll be a fellow slutty Italian girl with you any day!
She also talks about a more taboo subject, as well: her drug use She admits that her usage is restricted to "mostly cocaine" because she's "terrified of heroin." However, she did admit that she isn't Hoovering lines up her nostrils: "I won't lie; it's occasional. And when I say occasional, I mean maybe a couple of times a year," she says. She also made a point to her fans, saying, "But if you print that, I do not want my fans to ever emulate that or be that way. I don't want my fans to think they have to be that way to be great."
She is all about her monsters. Every answer relates back to her fans. Dedication and smart marketing.
Will you purchase the issue of VF with Gaga on the cover? I subscribe, so I cannot wait to read it.
