Another day, another accolade for Lady Gaga. According to Yahoo Music, the 24-year-old pop icon is the first artist of the new digital age to reach the five million sales mark, an accolade which came on the back of her two smash singles, "Poker Face" and "Just Dance." The record was broken when "Poker Face" topped five million sales, after "Just Dance" achieved the same impressive feat. The Black Eyed Peas are the only other act to have release two songs that have reached or to have gone above the five million sales high watermark. However, those hits came later in the band's career, and not from their debut, like Gaga's have. Clearly, there is no stopping Lady Gaga, as she continues to ascend into the stratosphere while wearing a towering pair of Louboutins.
Gaga is also the first artist to reach one billion streams of her videos online, which, oddly enough, proves that we are indeed living in a digital era. Views of the vids for "Poker Face," "Just Dance," which once premiered here on ARTISTdirect, and "Bad Romance" tally a wee bit over a billion views. Fuck, that's a lot of eyeballs on her, but we know Gaga won't cave from that type of pressure. She thrives on it.
The star is currently working on the ideas her next video, which will be for the song "Alejandro." This will be the third video from The Fame Monster. She hasn't revealed the director, but Gaga did mention that it will not be the sequel to the Beyonce co-starring "Telephone."
How long do you think Lady Gaga can ride the crest of this wave of fame? Forever, perhaps?
