Lady Gaga Explains Target Edition of "Born This Way"

Some of Lady Gaga's "Monsters" were wondering why she aligned with a retail chain that shipped $150,000 in corporate funds to a political action committee aligned with Tom Emmer during his 2010 run for governor of Minnesota. According to Billboard, Emmer's campaign had earlier made a donation to a Christian rock organization that advocates death and violence to gays. Emmer also supported a proposed state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, too. These are all positions at odds with the gay-friendly Gaga.
While Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel apologized to the public and Target employees for supporting Emmer, the company still donated to right-leaning organizations. Hmm. This is quite the complex political issue and to have Gaga, who is so pro-gay and pro-alternative lifestyles, align with Target might have you scratching your head. I love gay people, have tons of gay friends and support their right to marry, but I still shop at Target, and I am sure it is the same for many others out there, but we're not global pop stars, either.
Gaga told Billboard that she wasn't comfortable with the Target partnership when it first came up as a possibility, and that she met with "the entire executive staff" at Target, along with her manager Troy Carter, and then she was swayed.
"That discussion was one of the most intense conversations I've ever had in a business meeting," Gaga said. "Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they've made in the past...our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they've made supporting those groups."
What do you think of Gaga's deal with Target?
