Lana Del Rey, Mac Miller, Obliques Shine In Top Songs Of The Week - July 23-29
Fri, 29 Jul 2016 13:48:12
It has been a stunning week for new songs. DJ Khaled dropped his new album today and also released "Holy Key" [ft. Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, and Betty Wright]. Skrillex returned with Valentino Kahn and the duo unveiled "Slam Dunk" [ft. Kstylis]. Nas & Erykah Badu revealed the beat-less "This Bitter Land". Burial + Zombie debuted "Sweets," the first track from their highly anticipated collaboration. Massive Attack returned with three new songs, including "The Spoils" [ft. Hope Sandoval].
D.A.R.K. put out "Gunfight" off their upcoming LP, and we caught up with Andy Rourke to discuss Science Agrees. Father John Misty's "Real Love Baby" was featured on this list a couple months back, and this week the song got a full single release. CVS At Night released "Mudd Club" featuring the ever-so-talented Maria Usbeck, who we spoke with about her new LP Amparo.
There were also a variety of songs we wish we had room to fit in our top five, but just couldn't quite. Diana Gordon's Beyonce-name-dropping "The Legend Of", Ian Sweet's MJ-Ode "#23", Dinosaur Jr's "Going Down", and The Linedots' "Small Talk", are all quality tracks worth a listen.
Here are our favorites:
Brendan Canning - "Keystone Dealers"
Broken Social Scene may be working on new music, but that isn't stopping Brendan Canning from releasing solo material. "Keystone Dealers" has a Bossa Nova sound that will move you and his songwriting is on point as ever.
Krill - "Happy"
As some of the last new music that might come out of the Krill camp. "Happy" just leaves us to wonder what else might we have been able to hear.
Lana Del Rey - "Super Movie"
"Super Movie" is an old demo by Lana Del Rey that surfaced on the internet this week. The gentle acoustic guitar fits well into the poor recording quality and Del Rey's voice shines.
Mac Miller - "Dang" [ft. Anderson .Paak]
Anderson .Paak has been everywhere since dropping his new, stunning album "Malibu" earlier this year. This week he found his way onto Mac Miller's new track "Dang," which is infectious to say the least.
Obliques - "Cut Me Loose (Ill Feeling)"
Obliques' "Cut Me Loose (Ill Feeling)" will get you out of your seat and dancing. It may not be all about good feelings, but it is freeing.
