Lana Del Rey made her return to live performances with a secret show at South by Southwest music festival in Austin, TX.
Announced only one day ahead of the performance, the singer performed a set of nine songs, sharing her most popular hits at the Apple Music Space on Friday evening. Her first track, taken from her third studio album, Ultraviolence, was "Cruel World" — but much of her earlier works were shared, including "Blue Jeans", "Born to Die" and "Ride".
Despite the very short notice for an event of this kind, the concert was very well attended, and those people with SXSW badges and wristbands saw a rarity from the artist — Del Rey played live guitar backing to her track "Yayo". Her choice of axe? A white, Flying V Gibson. At the end of the song she remarked, "That's why I like to let Blake play guitar." (Blake is the official touring band member, typically responsible for all Flying V duties.)
Following a rendition of "Video Games", Del Rey finished the set with the live debut of her new single "Love" — the video of which can be seen below.
Currently working on her fifth studio album, due to be released later this year, Lana Del Rey spoke in an interview with BBC Radio 2's Jo Whiley, where she explained that the new record would be "more socially aware". She also shared that Last Shadow Puppets musician Miles Kane had been helping her develop the new material.
Does this live performance suggest that Del Rey will be taking her new album on the road? Fans can only hope. With Miles Kane involved, things are surely going to be interesting for die-hards and onlookers alike.
