CNN anchor Larry King and his seventh wife, Shawn Southwick, have officially called off their divorce. At 76, with seven wives in the rear view, I don’t think King’s heart could take another messy divorce. King is moving back into the family estate after a brief stay at a hotel. Welcome back, Lar! Let's hope Shawn gives you some serious make up nookie!
"They have stopped the divorce proceedings," spokesman Howard Rubenstein told Reuters. "He has moved back home." The couple had listed the ever-popular “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their initial split but both hurled cheating accusations one another's way. "We love our children, we love each other, we love being a family. That is all that matters to us," the couple said in a joint statement. "We owe it to ourselves and our children to continue being dedicated to each other. We want to thank our friends for their loyal love and support -- for being there for us."
Last week, King, 76, and Southwick, 50, both were still undecided about whether or not their marriage could be saved and they even had to ask the courts for an extension to a previously set deadline. They had postponed making a decision a few times. Southwick had filed for divorce in April after allegations that King and her 47-year-old sister, Shannon Engemann, were having an affair. Larry likes 'em young and apparently, to keep it all in the family! I kid, I kid. After Southwick’s divorce filing, King responded immediately with a divorce petition of his own. He also cited infidelity as the reason, as his wife was accused of an affair with her sons' baseball coach in 2007. What a tangled, cheating web the Kings weave.
Engemann told The Daily News earlier this week that they couple worked through everything. "It was just a lot of misunderstanding and jumping to conclusions," said Engemann. "Shawn and I spoke, and we're getting along great. We love each other very much. She's very clear on everything now." That’s not very elucidating.
King and Southwick have been married for 13 years.
