Singer Lauryn Hill has been sentenced to three months in federal prison for tax evasion. The elusive singer paid off the debt, which was nearly $1 million, at the 11th hour.
A judge in Newark, New Jersey said that after Hill completes her sentence, she'll have to deal with three more months on house arrest and then nine additional months of supervised release.
Hill pled guilty to three counts of tax evasion for failing to file returns on the $1.8 million in income that she earned from 2005 to 2007. Her lawyer tried to appeal to the judge, pointing to Hill's charity work and the fact that she has six kids. That effort failed.
Hill must report to prison by July 8.
