Lauryn Hill May Release a New Solo Album

The long-MIA Lauryn Hill performed at the Rock the Bells show in New York on Saturday and our friends at MTV News were actually blessed with the chance to ask the elusive and reclusive singer when she might finally release another solo album. Her last solo album, the critically revered and commercially successful The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, came out in 1998! Hill was not exactly forthcoming with information, responding, "We're getting closer. That's all I can say." That tells me nothing.
Hill did reveal that there won't be many, if any, collaborations. "I have respect for what people do," Hill said. "I also like to hear the eclectics, I like to hear the mixture. There's a lot of different creative energies out there right now. I respect the different sounds that I'm hearing. It's been such a long time since I've gotten my voice and my ideas [out]. In terms of collaborations, that's not even something I've been thinking about per se. I'm happy that people are still making music. That we still have a platform with which to make music. It's gonna be interesting to see what the future holds."
So don't expect a guest list as long as my arm on her solo album...if it ever comes out.
Has Lauryn Hill reached her expiration date by dropping out of the music business at the height of her popularity?
