Les Savy Fav frontman Tim Harrington ranks as one of the more entertaining showmen in indie rock, and it's a testament to him that his "what will he do or wear next?" routine hasn't gone stale even after all these years (they formed in 1995). It's hard enough to keep an audience interested and guessing for 90 minutes with the tried and true guitar/bass/drums combo. Harrington, per usual, was up to the challenge as the band blew through L.A. in support of this year's excellent Let's Stay Friends. His water-spitting, belly-jiggling, costume-discarding antics stole the show, and drew a distinct line between Les Savy Fav's studio polish and their unhinged live performances.

Taking the stage after an auspicious opening set by new labelmates The Dodos (new album coming in early 2008), Les Savy Fav enthusiastically tore into a set list front-loaded with tracks from their latest album—an album that some speculated would never come to fruition. The new material fits seamlessly into their catalog and made for some of the night's standouts, including "The Year Before The Year 2000" and "What Would Wolves Do?"—on the latter, Harrington descended into the bowels of the audience with the help of the world's longest mic cord (and an audience choir playing the part of the howling wolves). He eventually re-emerged on stage, but the message was clear: for all his antics, Les Savy Fav remains of the people and for the people.
