Liam Gallagher, Kesha, & Jennifer Lopez Give Us What We Want In Top Songs Of The Week - July 7
Thu, 06 Jul 2017 16:47:23
Fireworks, barbecues, friends and family, Fourth of July week is certainly won of the most fun and festive of the summer. And to celebrate, a melting pot of musicians decided to drop some of our favorite tunes of the year so far.
Arcade Fire just can't stop creating, evidenced by the fact that their new album is due out later this month, but member Will Butler still found time to release "Anything You Want / 4 July 17". Meanwhile, Liam Gallagher continued his long-standing appeal with the Oasis-like "Chinatown".
Lil Wayne surprised us all be release a four song EP seemingly out of nowhere today. And to make the world even more exciting, and in the case uplifting, Kesha announced her new album a strong piece of new material. So without further ado, here are our favorite songs of the week:
Liam Gallagher — "Chinatown"
In America, it might be tough to understand just how big of a star Liam Gallagher, the former Oasis member, is. But in his native England, he can't say a word without tabloids reporting it, which often happens to be Liam calling his his brother and biggest rival, Noel, "a potato." But upon announcement of his first ever solo album, As You Were, fans went nuts worldwide. The record isn't due out till October, but both of the cuts we've heard so far has fans on the edge of their seat. This week, Liam debuted "Chinatown" as well as its accompanying music video, which features the musician wandering around London and glaring at the camera. It's exactly what we would expect Liam, and we love it.
Kesha — "Praying"
It's been five long years since Kesha release a new album. That period of time has been a well documented struggle for the singer who has been fighting a legal battle with Sony as well as her producer Dr. Luke who she has accused of sexually harassing and abusing her. There is nothing good that has come from those times, but it seems like Kesha has finally begun to heal. This week she announced her new album Rainbow would be out in August, and with it came the powerful ballad "Praying".
Jennifer Lopez — "Ni Tu Ni Yo"
It's been a decade since Jennifer Lopez last released a Spanish language album, but now she is finally on it. We have already heard "Mírate", which was released exclusively as part of the Billboard Latin Music Awards 2017. Her new track, "Ni Tu Ni Yo", isn't anything like the ballad however. Instead, it's the kind of dance track that could light up a dancefloor anywhere in the world. This is Lopez at her best doing what she is known for and doing it better than any one else can.
Lil Wayne — "Magnolia"
If you haven't heard Playboi Carti's "Magnolia", we certainly suggest you take a listen. It is one of the biggest surprises of 2017 and put many new ears onto the young artist. But the song coming from Lil Wayne gives it a different kind of swagger. The legendary rapper has an special talent when it comes to making others' songs his own, and on "Magnolia" he does it again. It also doesn't hurt that the track comes along with three others as part of the release of In Tune We Trust. A surprise EP that caught everyone off guard.
Will Butler — "Anything You Want / 4 July 17"
Will Butler released his most recent record Friday Night just last year, and since he has been reasonably busy with forthcoming Arcade Fire record, which is due out near the end of this month. But it seems like the musician couldn't contain himself once the most recent holiday came around, so he gave us a taste of something we all certainly enjoyed. Complete with George Washington and Tom Sawyer, "Anything You Want / 4 July 17" may have come late to the party on Independence Day, but it certainly stirred things up once it got there.
