After achieving fame in alt rock band 4 Non Blondes in the 1990s -remember "What's Up?"-- Linda Perry went on to write massive hit songs for the likes of Pink, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and many others. The openly out Perry has been bitten by the band bug again as a form of therapy since she had a bit of a painful breakup and has formed a new band called Deep Dark Robot in the process.
"Basically, I fell in love with a woman and really quick it turned into an emotional tsunami," Perry told Rolling Stone. "She ended up being an incredible muse, even though things didn't work out between us." So Perry spent six months recording 8 Songs About a Girl with her longtime friend Tony Tornay, who plays drums in the band Fatso Jetson.
Deep Dark Robot are in the middle of their first tour but Perry admitted she is not seeing packed houses. "We just played in Washington, D.C. and there were 30 people in the crowd," Perry said "It kind of bums me out and hurts my ego. But that's the good part. It's like starting from scratch. I'm really enjoying playing music – and eventually the crowds will come."
That's a good attitude, Linda!
Was Clementine Ford the girl who inspired the eight songs? Perry had been dating Cybill Shepherd's daughter, last we checked.
