Pulling from their transformative and transcendent A Thousand Suns, Linkin Park have constructed the ultimate concert experience, and you can hear it firsthand on the band's brand new iTunes EP, A Thousand Suns: Puerta de Alcalá (Live).
Recorded during a gig in Madrid, Spain, Linkin Park offer up six songs spanning their career and illuminating not only how much they've evolved, but also how much they've changed the very landscape of rock 'n' roll.
"New Divide," the band's cut from Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, careens from an industrial guitar thud into a gliding hook from vocalist Chester Bennington. His voice rumbles with the same passion, power, and prowess that it does on the recorded version, while serenely destructive keyboards color the song's sonic backdrop. From A Thousand Suns, "Waiting For The End" sees Bennington and Mike Shinoda trading vocal lines over a reverberating synth swell buttressed by Rob Bourdon's airtight live drumming and Dave "Phoenix" Farrell's airy bass lines. Harmonies rise and fall with Joe Hahan's electronic textures, and the song bares a raw vibrancy on stage, increasing its impact. "Breaking The Habit" dawns with a gorgeous keyboard hum from the stage as it morphs into Brad Delson's melodic fret mastery underlying the sounds.
Exhibiting a fresh, fiery feel, "The Catalyst" sounds like the perfect soundtrack for any futuristic hunt you could see on screen. The band injects the song with a darkly anxious energy in the live setting that resounds thunderously and poignantly all at once. "In The End" still packs the same elegant punch that it always did, while "What I've Done" remains the perfect send-off for this EP.
Linkin Park stand out as one of the most immersive and inspirational live acts ever, and this EP is further proof. Ultimately, A Thousand Suns will stand out as a landmark record for the band especially as fans get to experience it more and more live and on stunningly stellar output such as this.
