Kid Cudi isn't your average artist. In fact, he's rather extraordinary.

He's got more than a few similarities to various superheroes, and he even spoke about his "powers" in the phenomenal new single "Immortal". With his new album Indicud looming on the horizon for release on April 23, he's emerging as the superhero hip-hop was in dire need of.

In this exclusive feature, ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino lists ten reasons why Kid Cudi remains hip-hop's ultimate superhero.

10 Reasons Why Kid Cudi is Hip-Hop's Ultimate Superhero

    10. Among Kid Cudi's arsenal of superpowers, the man can act with the same kind of passion and tenacity that's categorized his music from day one. Not many can make a seamless jump from hip-hop to the big screen. There's a long list of attempts that just didn't work out, but that's for another article…Nevertheless, Cudi proved his chops on HBO's How to Make It in America and will rev everything up with Need for Speed.

    9. Not only can he command a scene on camera, but he can also direct. Have you seen the hazy, hypnotic clips for "Just What I Am" and "King Wizard"? Cudi's also exhibiting an incredible eye putting him in league with Professor Xavier as much as Wolverine.

    8. He's got style. Every superhero has a uniform, and Cudi's uniform is that he doesn't conform to any rap trends, skater trends, or anything else. He's himself.

    7. He remembers where he came from, and he'll shout out influences ranging from Nirvana to Kanye West with reverence and respect. Superheroes got to remember where they came from…

    6. He's got multiple identities. That's key for any good superhero. There's Peter Parker and Spider-Man. There's Clark Kent and Superman. There's Bruce Wayne and Batman. There's Kid Cudi and then there's WZRD—his alternative project with Dot Da Genius.

    5. Any superhero worth his salt must be able to build his weapons. In this case, Cudi's an impressive producer in his own right. Listen to his latest single "Immortal", and you'll hear an unparalleled musical vision.

    4. He rolls solo dolo. All the best superheroes can stand alone from The Punisher to The Dark Knight.

    3. As far as his main "powers" go, his songwriting only gets better with every new jam he drops. "Immortal"—'nuff said.

    2. He can rap better than most. When he hits the mic and lets it flow, it's like watching the X-Men kick some ass.

    1. Indicud is going to change the game on April 23. Done.
