Frank Ocean used the second episode of his Beats 1 radio show Blonded to debut "Chanel," the singer's first new solo song since the dual release of albums Endless and Blonde.
Ocean's vocal performance is served on a bed of piano hooks and muffled beats as background vocals support some classic, self-aware lyrics from the rapper; "I see both sides like Chanel. 2016 burnt like some discs / 2017 playing off a Walkman / This a cult, not a clique on the net." Toward the close of the track, Ocean sings, "I got new money / And it's all cash / I got new bags / And they all collabs / I rubber band thousand dollar Delta gift cards."
"Chanel" follows Ocean's appearance alongside those other 'too-hot-to-handle-rappers' Migos on Calvin Harris' "Slide." This solo track is available to stream on all digital music services or purchase on iTunes — see the link below.
Aside from the new tune from Ocean, this episode of Blonded also featured music by DJ Shadow, Thundercat, J Dilla, and Whitney Houston, whose "Exhale" Ocean chatted about prior to broadcasting the song. The show is clearly a 'must-listen' for fans of the rapper — while the first episode didn't feature any new music from Ocean, he did share a conversation between himself and Jay-Z in which the two men addressed the modern state of pop radio.
Following the song's premiere — it played no less than 18 times during the second half of Blonded's two-hour runtime, with an A$AP Rocky "Chanel" remix hidden within the marathon — Ocean took to Tumblr to post the song's lyrics as well as some accompanying artwork — you can check those out below.
With the sweet new track, his radio show, and most likely more tricks up his sleeve, Ocean is reminding fans why, when he does come to play, he's at the top of his game.
