We are on a mission with Lupe Fiasco. And that "Mission" is to fight cancer.
The rapper has released his epic new track "Mission," the lead single off his upcoming fifth full-length studio album Tetsuo & Youth, scheduled for release summer 2014.
Song intel: "Mission" is a track to empower those facing cancer, revere cancer survivors and remember those who have passed due to cancer related illnesses.
With an inspiring introduction from various cancer survivors telling their story, anchored by legendary singer/songwriter and cancer survivor Charlie Wilson, "Mission" finds Lupe Fiasco expressing stories of the emotional burden of cancer, while also working to uplift those in an effort to help fight the disease.
Have a listen:
In support of "Mission," Lupe has joined Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C), a grassroots movement to raise funds to accelerate the pace of cancer research, as a celebrity ambassador. Together, Lupe and Stand Up To Cancer are planning various collaborations tied to the track that will be unveiled later this year.
"'Mission' is a song near to my heart from both personal experience and of those close to me," says Lupe Fiasco. "We are on a 'Mission' and hope others will join in our efforts."
The artwork for "Mission," designed by renowned Chicago-based artist Hebru Brantley, features a young man dissipating into the air. The art is inspired by people's will to fight cancer head on, with the color black representing the disintegrating disease and blue and yellow representing hope. Hebru Brantley and Lupe Fiasco, longtime friends from Chicago, collaborated on this effort as Hebru has personally experienced loss from the disease.
