Mary J. Blige is preparing to release her thirteenth studio album. Strength of a Woman is set to hit the shelves on April 28th, and the artist has just shared a new track "Love Yourself" from the new collection — and it's a collaboration with none other than Kanye West. You can hear the new, horn-stabbed, track below.
Aside from Kanye, also offering contributions to the Strength of a Woman are Migos' Quavo, Kaytranada and Missy Elliott.
The track, which comes just weeks ahead of full album release, is an old-school sounding anthem of distorted snares, and shiny horns. The theme is self-love. Kanye's verse sits in theme as he raps the self-celebratory, "I decided not to use my colour as a handicap / He a designer, artist, producer, and he rap."
Elsewhere in Kanye West's universe it seems as if the rapper continues to burn his candle at both ends, and is close to releasing new music himself. One of his collaborators, CyHi The Prynce claimed that a follow-up to the 2012 'Cruel Summer' compilation has been completed, saying that 'Cruel Winter' was "really done". Speaking in an interview with Complex he said, "To be all the way honest with y'all, it's really done. The thing is, it's so many superstars, to get everybody on one accord and moving at the same time is tough. We got enough to put a 'Cruel Winter', 'Cruel Summer', 'Cruel Autumn', and 'Cruel Spring' out."
In the meantime Mary J. Blige's track sets the tone for a long-awaited album from a lady who rarely puts a foot wrong, and who represents herself well on a track that demands immediate replay.
