As part of the run-up to the release of Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds new album, Who Built the Moon?, on November 24th, the band today premiered the LP's first single, "Holy Mountain".
David Holmes, who produced Who Built the Moon?, said of the album, "People are going to be surprised. I think people love Noel and they're desperate for him to make a really big, bold, up-tempo beast of a record — a lot of Noel's music is quite mid-tempo. This one is fun."
In a statement that accompanied the single's premiere Noel added, "It was one of the first things David and I did on the first week of working together. I knew instantly that it was going to be the first single. There's so much joy in it. Until the day I die, it will be one of my favourite pieces of music that I've ever written. It sounds great live. My kids love it, my friends' kids all love it and I am sure 'the kids' will love it."
The new single comes just days after Noel's younger brother, Liam Gallagher, released his debut solo album, As You Were. There is no word on whether this timing was an intentional move by Noel, but the two have been in a heavily reported, rather entertaining, and often hilarious long-running feud for many, many years, dating back to their days leading Oasis to the top of the charts all over the world.
Older brother Noel's Who Built the Moon? follows 2015's Chasing Yesterday, which peaked at number one on the U.K. albums chart, though it only reached number 25 on the Billboard 200 albums chart stateside. This will be Noel's third album with his High Flying Birds project, which also features former Oasis members Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock, Oasis session pianist Mike Rowe, and bassist Russell Pritchard, formerly of The Zutons.
