Listen to haunting + lilting "Driving South," the duet between Walter Rose + Lucinda Williams, which will appear on his debut album. It makes us want to hit the road in a beat up Chevy and take in all the road has to offer, especially Americana culture.
Go here or here to listen to the song. Enjoy!
How did this collab come to be? Let's hear it from Rose.
"It's not every day you open a door and see someone like Lucinda Williams on the other side," exclaims Carmel, California-based Walter Rose about the final day of recording for his debut album Cast Your Stone, to be released on Jan. 17, 2012. He continued, "This one just flowed out of me," Rose says of the song. "Every word just fell from the sky. I wish it happened more often!"
Eric Heywood, who was an original member of Son Volt and a Grammy-winner with Ray Lamontange, gives a remarkable Steel performance on the track. "To get to play live with just Eric and I in the room, and to have that moment of eye contact when he took the solo was amazing," Rose said. "Then I get to watch Lucinda sing on it and turn it into a duet. It's still a bit hard to believe."
Walter Rose's debut album is Cast Your Stone, a dusty, worn-in collection of songs that have been described brilliantly by American Songwriter as something that "could have been released in 1975."
