The throne on stage at STAPLES Center last night was extremely appropriate for A$AP Rocky as he supported Rihanna.

He's rightfully emerged as a 21st century hip-hop king in the past year with the release of LONG.LIVE.A$AP—a bona fide modern classic. However, he wields the same fire live that he does on record, and his set was a testament to that.

After an ominous orchestral swell, he stormed out with "Long Live A$AP". Proclaiming "I thought I'd probably die in prison" over a guttural, gritty beat, the entire arena moved with him. He crisscrossed the edge of the stage ferociously as he blasted off incendiary verses. He held the mic up close and sang the airy refrain perfectly as the audience stood transfixed.

"Wassup" allowed the vibe to expand further with two screens displaying grimy, sexy visuals as Rocky continued to verbally slay the beats. "Jodye" and "Angels" stomped with punchy potency, maintaining the same energy throughout and punctuated by visuals of a statue of Mary bleeding and mushroom clouds. Before "PMW (All I Really Need)", he smiled, "I'm just happy to be here". He then proceeded to do an a capella of the track's immortal chorus, keeping that same grin as ScHoolboy Q joined him. "Hands on the Wheel" bounced with vicious intensity. Meanwhile, just before a rousing "Goldie", Rocky announced, "I didn't come to perform. I came to party. Let's get some dope shit".

There are few things as dope as an arena singing "Goldie" at full volume. "Kissin' Pink" saw A$Ap Ferg make an explosive appearance. Together, they're like a 21st century Method Man and Redman, perfectly balancing each other and making for one truly dynamic and deadly duo. Ferg took the spotlight on a tough and tight "Work", before Rocky dropped the elegantly ethereal "Fashion Killa" and closed out with the anthem "Fuckin' Problems".

Somebody get him crown to go along with that throne because he's one of the best rappers of the decade.
