According to the Associated Press, singer/actress Liza Minnelli was named an officer in France's Legion of Honor earlier this week.
Calling it a "dream come true," Minelli, 65, was awarded the red-ribboned medal during a ceremony in Paris. She is the daughter of Judy Garland, in case you didn't know.
French Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand cited not only Minnelli's extensive career on the stage, but her work in fighting AIDS as reason enough to honor her. "We love you because you make our lives better," Mitterand told Minelli, who is also a gay icon. "High priestess of musical theater, you are the contemporary incarnation of the versatile talent, American-style," he finished.
Congrats Liza, even though we're not 100 percent sure what a Legion of Honor membership entails.
Are you a fan of Liza Minelli? How about Judy Garland, who played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz?
