Neil Aspinall—the Beatles' first road manager and eventual president of their Apple Corps Ltd. company—died of complications from lung cancer on Sunday night at New York City's Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He was 66.
"I've known Neil many years and he was a good friend," Ringo Starr said in a statement. "We were blessed to have him in our lives and he will be missed."
"As a loyal friend, confidant and chief executive, Neil's trusting stewardship and guidance has left a far-reaching legacy for generations to come," representatives from the rest of the band added.
Aspinall stepped down from his Apple Corps post last year, but not before he could lead the Beatles through such key posthumous projects as the Beatles Anthology series and the recent Cirque du Soleil production Love.
