Lostprophets Comment on Singer Ian Watkins' Arrest

Lostprophets lead singer Ian Watkins, 35, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court in the U.K. on Wednesday, December 19, accused of conspiring with a woman to rape a one-year-old girl. WTF! Like seriously? That's a serious and reprehensible charge, and one of many that have been laid at the Welsh singer's doorstep. Also, authorities usually don't make "Oops" arrests in these cases, so they must have some damning evidence against the frontman, since he was denied bail and will have to appear before the court again on December 31.
Watkins is also accused of two counts of conspiring to engage in sexual touching with two young children and possessing, making and distributing indecent images, as well possessing "extreme" animal pornography.
Whoa. Like, again, WTF? Watkins, a stylish and talented pretty boy, doesn't exactly fit the profile of pedophile or a cretin. That's not to say that there is a type or that someone who doesn't fit the type can't commit such crimes. But there is a stereotype, and he doesn't exactly fall in line with the profile. The news is shocking, to say the least. You wouldn't look at him and think, "Yeah, there was something off about him and this isn't shocking news." It is totally shocking.
The conspiracy charges span a period between May 1 and December 17, and the indecent images cover a period between August 12 and December 17.
Watkins was remanded in custody on Wednesday, along with two women, aged 24 and 20, who cannot be named and who may be involved in his bail denial. Watkins' lawyer said that his client plans to deny the charges. The singer's mother planned to use her house to help her son secure bail.
His bandmates issued the following statement about the matter:
"Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers. Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike and Stu."
Okay ,while we think the charges are heinous, we have to point out a few things since everyone seems to be rushing to judgment.
Remember a few years back when a photo of Watkins performing fellatio surfaced online? He hinted that he used his own graphic design skills to fake the photo and see how far it went in terms of the media coverage. It was a weird situation.
There have also been some online rumblings that a scorned lover may have set Watkins up, as well. So perhaps somewhere along the line, something similar and way out of line and indecent happened here? We don't know. But there are lots of questions and few answers.
But it is something to gnaw on. If Watkins did do what he is accused of, it's reprehensible and the book should be thrown at him, since any crimes against children, or attempts to commit crimes against children, are unforgivable. And to think that someone conspired to have sex with a year-old child is purely disgusting and unfathomable. But let's hear the rest of the facts first. As a news source, we must suggest that there are two sides of this story, and perhaps Watkins is in the middle of a shit-storm not of his own doing.
What do you think of these charges and this case? Do you think Ian Watkins is guilty of what he is accused of? Do you think there could be some insane set up or misunderstanding?
