There is an update on the strange and unthinkable case of Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins.

But first… a refresher course. Watkins was arrested on charges of sex crimes and offenses against children in December 2012.

He has been imprisoned ever since, with his legion of fans fiercely divided over the situation.

The new news? He will stand trial this summer.

The charges include two counts of conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13 and three counts of possessing, making and distributing indecent images of children. He is also accused of possessing "extreme" animal pornography, as if there is such as thing as non-extreme animal porn. That we don't get. That must be some animal porn to be classified as extreme, since we'd think that the extremity of animal porn is, you know, inherent.

Watkins is alleged to have conspired to have sex with a 1-year-old, which is pretty unfathomable and disturbing.

Watkins didn't enter a plea during his appearance at Cardiff Crown Court in Wales and the hearing was adjourned until May due to technical difficulties with the video link in which he appeared, according to WENN.

The proposed trial date is July 15, which should be confirmed shortly.

The singer's solicitor said, "Mr. Watkins furiously denies all of the charges and allegations made. He intends to fight to the bitter end to clear his name. He wishes to thank the fans, family and friends for the constant love and support they have given and continue to give throughout this testing time."

Two women, who are 24 and 20, respectively, are also charged, but cannot be named for legal reasons. They did not enter pleas, either.

Lostprophets fans, we welcome your comments on this case. Remember that while we think the charges are reprehensible and that he deserves what he gets if found guilty, he is innocent until proven guilty. Discuss away in the comments.
