M.I.A. stated on Twitter yesterday, "I am handing my last LP in to my American label this week. It'll be up to them if it's released.I don't have visa 4 states to promote or spk!" Without a U.S. visa, M.I.A. would not be allowed to tour or promote her new album in the States. She followed up her first tweet with a joke a few minutes later, "Can't tour the US without a visa- might have to start writing songs 4 Dj Khaled and Selena Gomez to get heard." She corrected her spelling of Selena later.
Last week, M.I.A. posted lyrics to a new song on her Instagram. Earlier in April, she dropped "Rewear It" as part of H&M's World Recycle Week project, which encouraged shoppers to return unwanted clothes to H&M stores around the world. The last single released by M.I.A. was "Borders," which debuted late last November.
A release date has not been announced for the new album. It has been reported that the title of her "last LP" will be Matahdatah, but there is no official word if that is still the case. M.I.A's last album, 2013's Matangi, was met with widespread praise from fans and critics.
