Controversial cultural lightning rod and pop rapper M.I.A. has confirmed the title of her new album is Matangi. It will be out in 2013.

While speaking at the Museum of Modern Art in New York on November 4, she revealed the connection to her own birth name, Matangi, who is also a Hindu wisdom goddess. "I was searching for parrots on Google and I found Matangi, who is parrot green," she said, per the NME.com.

The artist is going to India, to add more "stuff" to the album, which means it will be out next year, as opposed to December as she had planned.

About the sound, she said, "It's not 'I want to be trendy.' I just want to make music that makes sense."
