Macklemore, Jimmy Cliff, & Kesha Know No Better In Top Music Videos Of The Week - July 14
Thu, 13 Jul 2017 17:39:56
We're all in full summer mode now, which makes these full work weeks just seem like they drag on forever — like really when is the next national holiday? It's September 4th, 52 days from just in case you're counting. Thankfully though, artist continue to drop eye-popping music videos to get us through these dog days.
Jimmy Cliff returns to beautiful Jamaica in his new clip for "Life", which was shot in the neighborhoods where he first started out on his music career. Macklemore, meanwhile, celebrated his grandma's 100th birthday in what might be one of the most most uplifting, funny , and heartwarming music videos of the year.
Major Lazer took us back to high school in dreams in their video for "Know No Better". Kesha showed us she needs no one else, as well as the strength of a "Woman". And that was only the beginning for a week filled with eye-catching visuals.
Here are our favorites:
Macklemore — "Glorious" [ft. Skylar Grey]
Macklemore visited his grandmother Helen for her 100th birthday in his new video for "Glorious". In it he promises that she can do whatever she wants for the day, and the pair end up egging a house, singing karaoke, and riding scooters through a grocery store. Don't worry he also gave his grandmother a gift, a fresh new pair of Yeezys and a stripper for her and her girlfriends to enjoy. It's one of those videos that makes you laugh and brings warmth to your heart. We just to hope to be so much fun if we make it to 100.
Jimmy Cliff — "Life"
Jimmy Cliff's video for new track "Life" was shot in Cockburn Pen and Parade Gardens. It's beautiful and filled with blasts of color. We'll let Jimmy tell you about the experience, "Shooting the 'Life' video there was like walking back in time, I grew up in west Kingston and many of the producers from back when I started out were around those areas; you could walk from Parade Gardens to their places and all of the artists would meet up at Beverley's, Coxsone Dodd's (Studio One) or at Duke Reid's (Treasure Isle). Going back there now, everybody knew me, everybody put their best into the video so there was a lot of excitement and I really felt great shooting the video there."
Jennifer Lopez — "Ni Tu Ni Yo"
It's been far too long since we've had a gold old booty shaking Jennifer Lopez music video — can you believe it has been 16 years since "I'm Real" saw her pair up with Ja Rule? Well luckily, it seems like Lopez is intent with bringing some old school flair to her new Spanish language album — her first in a decade — and ex-husband Marc Anthony is also along for the ride. Her new music video "Ni Tu Ni Yo" sees the performer pop with color and life, and though their might not be as much shaking as there used to be, it's great to see Lopez back on the dancefloor.
Major Lazer — "Know No Better" [ft. Travis Scott, Quavo & Camila Cabello]
Speaking of dancefloors, few control it better than Diplo and his crew of mercenaries, which was joined by Travis Scott, Quavo & Camila Cabello for "Know No Better". The video features a talented young dancer whose dreams are filled with Travis Scott and Camila Cabello, despite his rather bland high school life. The song is the title track from the EP the group dropped just last month.
Kesha — "Woman" [ft. The Dap-Kings Horns]
Just last week Kesha announced that she was fully back by dropping her new track "Praying" and telling the world her new album Rainbow would be due out in August. And for the second week in a row, Kesha is making into one of your top lists, this time via the video for "Woman". The new modern anthem is strong and poignant and in its corresponding clip the singer glows in gold. She's backed by the Dap-Kings Horns and does everything just the way she wants to because she's a "motherf***ing woman", and that's exactly what we wanted to hear.
