Universal has picked up Blonde Ambition, a screenplay about Madonna's early years as a recording artist in New York City. The Black List-winning script was written by Elyse Hollander, and focuses on Madonna's life in the early Eighties as she works on her debut album while trying to break into the music industry.
Michael De Luca, who produced Fifty Shades of Grey for Universal, is attached to produce along with John Zaozirny of Bellevue Productions, and Brett Ratner's RatPac Entertainment. Ratner previously directed the singer's "Beautiful Stranger" video in 1999.
It is unknown if the project has been approved by Madonna, or if Universal has secured the rights to any of Madonna's early hits, such as "Holiday", "Lucky Star", or "Borderline".
The story is set in early 1980s New York as Madonna Louise Ciccone works on her debut album, and struggles in a business that treats women badly, while also dealing with a burgeoning love life and her first hints of fame.
Madonna last released Rebel Heart back in 2015. The album peak at number 2 on the US Billboard 200. That was followed by a worldwide tour in support of the album. The entertainer currently has no concerts scheduled, and there is no news of anything new on the horizon. However, we are sure something will be coming soon enough from the pop superstar -if only a reaction to the news of her early career being the subject matter of a film that fans will be queuing to see.
