Maria Usbeck Brings Authentic Ecuadorian Vibes On Debut Album Amparo

Maria Usbeck is currently enjoying incredible attention for her unforced approach to unifying cultural contrasts into one cohesive whole. Her debut album, Amparo, was written and recorded across the span of three years in Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Portugal, Easter Island, Costa Rica, the south of Florida, L.A., and her home in Brooklyn. Far from being unfocused and panicked to reference the cultures which the artist passed through, this is a collection with a heart informed by the unifying elements of those places.
Musically, percussive elements echo the native drums of the places Maria Usbeck visited, melodic passages come easily, and the lyrical content is served in Spanish and Ecuadorian colloquial expressions. A smart blend of modern electronica sits with acoustic tones. Amparo is a solid achievement.
ARTISTdirect Interviews caught up with Maria to share a glimpse of her current path, and to gain brief insight into the world she's seen, and the universe she's creating.
