Mariah Carey will join Season 12 of American Idol, serving as a judge.
Carey steps into the heels vacated by Jennifer Lopez, who left after two seasons of judgehood. If that's even a word.
"It's the biggest recording artist than any of these [singing competition] shows have ever had," Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said yesterday (July 23.) "It's an artist many of these contestants have tried to emulate. [The deal] only concluded only hours ago." He also alluded to the fact that the reality singing competition and its saturation point, saying, "Not being the only game in town we need to keep things fresh."
