Matchbox Twenty Records New Songs for Best-Of - Rob Thomas selflessly puts solo career on hold to help put some more money in his bandmates' pockets [an error occurred while processing this directive][an error occurred while processing this directive]

Matchbox Twenty has entered the studio with Grammy-winning producer Steve Lillywhite to work on the band's first output since 2002's More Than You Think You Are. The tracks resulting from this recording session will be included on the rock band's forthcoming, cheekily titled retrospective, Exile on Mainstream, due out on October 2 via Melisma/Atlantic Records.

"For the first time, we're all writing as a band," says singer Rob Thomas in a press release. "In the past, I would write all the songs and the guys would write all their parts. Now it's a band in the hand. We all fight it out... we fight over melodies and lyrics. It's completely unique from anything we've done before."

The greatest hits collection will inevitably feature the rock band's inescapable hits from 1996's Yourself or Someone Like You, 2000's Mad Season and the aforementioned More Than You Think You Are.
