Media Blasts David Arquette For Detailing Split With Courteney Cox on "Howard Stern Show"

I have to take a moment to address the media hoopla surrounding David Arquette's Tuesday morning confessional interview to Howard Stern on his satellite radio show about his separation from his wife of 11 years, Courteney Cox Arquette. The actor said that he and his wife are separated and have set terms where they are allowed to see other people while in this trial separation. He also talked about how the pair revealed the news to their 6-year-old daughter, Coco, and how their sex life had fizzled a bit. The media has reacted ridiculously, saying that he revealed too much, like the fact that he has slept with someone else twice since the separation.
I listened to the entire interview, twice. I listen to Stern all day, every day. I think Arquette was obviously and visibly torn up about the split and that he was going on Stern to clear up allegations that he was a cheating husband by revealing some of the details of their agreement before the tabloid feeding frenzy began. Yesterday, Arquette even apologized for being so open about the split.
I think Arquette and Stern should be applauded for an open, honest interview. Gossip columnists print falsities and they make assumptions all the time. They don't sit down for hardball interviews or seek out the facts with the subjects that they cover the way Stern did. Celebrity interviewers lob softball questions and a lot is said with nothing of substance being relayed. See Elin Nordegren's interview with People, which was considered a big "get" since it was her only interview about her divorce from Tiger Woods and it essentially said nothing but generic, media-friendly statements. Arquette was raw, open and honest with Stern, whom he is friendly with. If anything, he was looking to shed a little light on the truth and clear up some inconsistencies in the media.
What did you think about Arquette's interview with Stern? Did he open up too much?
