Members of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill are forming a supergroup. Earlier this week, Rage Against the Machine launched a mysterious countdown website. Initial speculation was that the website hinted towards a RATM reunion. However, it has since been revealed that there will not be a reunion at this time, but rather the three aforementioned 90s giants will be coming together to form a supergroup.
Billboard reports, "that three-quarters of the storied band (Rage Against the Machine) -- guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk -- are joining forces with Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real to form a supergroup called Prophets of Rage (referencing a Public Enemy song of the same name from the 1988 album It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back) to perform songs by all three bands. Rage vocalist Zack de la Rocha is not involved."
According to Pitchfork, "They're reportedly set to debut at the Hollywood Palladium on June 3 and will perform songs by all three groups." Rage Against the Machine last played together as part of a reunion tour in 2011. The band's last studio album, Renegades, an album of covers, was released back in 2000. Public Enemy last released Man Plans God Laughs in 2015. Cypress Hill last released Rise Up in 2010, but plan to release Elephants on Acid later this year.
