MGMT, the Connecticut outfit whose primary members are Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, have provided a new update on the status of their eagerly awaited upcoming album. "Fine tuning in the studio, Last few days of mixing!" is the message for fevered fans.
Just recently the band confirmed that their new record, the follow-up to their 2013 self-titled album would be called Little Dark Age.
Last month, MGMT confirmed that their new album is finished and set for release this year, and last week during a live set at Beale Street Music Festival in Tennessee they debuted previously unheard material from the project.
Further excitement around the band comes from their confirmed bookings at a number of festivals around North America and Canada through the summer.
Fans of MGMT will be overjoyed by the news. They had expected the band to return with new material in 2016, when the duo made an announcement on Christmas Day 2015, that they would "re-dominate your mind hole" the following year.
However, no new material surfaced and, amidst the sound of a fanbase's broken heart the band later issued a clarifying statement which read; "Meant to say MGMT re-dominates your mind hole in 2017".
Twelve months ago, in May of 2016 Mac DeMarco responded to rumours that he would be collaborating with MGMT in the near future, saying "[VanWyngarden] lives in the same neighborhood as me, so we're homies. I don't know, maybe I should leave it as a mystery. I'm not recording on any MGMT albums, just my own record, but who knows?"
So now — the only question remains "Is DeMarco really going to make an appearance on one of the longest-teased records of the last two years?" We're going to have to wait… just a little longer, to find out.
