MGMT Streams New Album Congratulations After Album Leak

After sophomore album Congratulations leaked online, the ultra-hip, Brooklyn (the mother of all hipster places) dance/pop/rock hybrid band MGMT decided to stream the entire platter, due out on Columbia, via its official website, to help combat the piracy and clean up the mess.
Congratulations follows up 2007's highly-regarded, quirky rock debut, Oracle Spectacular and it's due out on domestically on April 13. The band's initial reaction was to give the album away as a free download after it spilled onto the web, but clearly, management, marketing and label execs intervened and convinced the band to offer it as a stream instead. It could end up being a genius marketing move, where fans can preview the album and then go buy it! In a statement that they put on their site, the band said, "Hey everybody, the album leaked, and we wanted you to be able to hear it from us. We wanted to offer it as a free download but that didn't make sense to anyone but us." Sure it didn't!
Go check out the stream here. Would you have offered the album as a free download if you were MGMT? Are they crazy? Or playing the game right? What do you think?
