MGMT have served Nicolas Sarkozy with a lawsuit, claiming he didn’t give the duo proper compensation for the use of their single “Kids” in the French President’s online videos. According to MGMT’s lawyer, Isabelle Wekstein, 53 Euros (around $90) was originally paid to use the song, but repeated plays have brought up issues of infringement and counterfeiting.
As for Sarkozy’s response so far, he’s offered the group an additional Euro as a friendly gesture of sorts. “[Sarkozy’s] offer is disrespectful of the rights of artists and authors,” Wekstein said in a statement. “It is insulting.”
