Strength in numbers, yo!
A group of 35 Michael Jackson fan clubs joined forces to lobby for the cancellation of "Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert," set for Oct. 8 in Wales. The late King of Pop's mother Katherine is the driving force behind the show. Despite the vocal minority that is against the show, the concert organizers will not be deterred by the protesters and have said that they will move forward with the concert.
However, they'll offer the opposing fans the chance to air their concerns in a global conference call. "We are 100 percent going ahead. We will continue to announce names for the lineup. We are moving forward and now we will try to address issues that have been raised by fans," Juliette Harris, a spokeswoman for Global Events Live, told Reuters. Harris said members of Jackson fan clubs will be invited to take part in a conference call set for Tuesday, Aug. 30, in which promoters of the event will try to squash their mounting concerns. That is generous of the organizers. It is not often that vocal protesters are given the opportunity to voice their concerns in a manner such as this! Nice work, Global Events Live.
The groups said in an open letter that they are unhappy with confusion over charitable donations from ticket revenue, the timing of the concert during the involuntary manslaughter trial of Jackson's doctor, and the fact that Kiss were invited to perform despite bassist Gene Simmons making disparaging comments about Jackson after he died. That invite was rescinded, though.
Are you for or against Michael Forever: The Tribute Concert? Do you give a shit?
