A "lifelong friend" of Michael Jackson's is promising to tell all in a new book, The Associated Press reports. Hmmm, that statement begs the question. If you are someone's "lifelong friend," why would you want to spill details and author a posthumous "tell all" book after the person is dead and can't defend themselves if necessary? While I am not assuming that the friend's book will be a smear campaign against Jackson, I've never read a "tell all" that wasn't a bit damaging to the reputation of the subject. Joan Crawford and Mommie Dearest, anyone?
Frank Cascio, a former personal assistant to the singer, has signed a deal with William Morrow for the book, My Friend Michael. The memoir is scheduled for release this Fall. According to Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins, the book will offer an "uplifting and definitive" account of Jackson, who died in 2009, while noting the "terribly scarred" experience of fame.
Does this book sound like something you would read? Or do you think it is a parasitic move to capitalize on Jackson's fame? Rinse, lathe, repeat, comment.
