Michael Jackson continues to remain on the tip of the media's and music industry's tongues in the wake of his death nearly a year ago. Jackson will be posthumously inducted into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame at the Apollo Theatre's Annual Spring Benefit. Past inductees into the Apollo Legends Hall of Fame include Quincy Jones, Patti Labelle, Smokey Robinson, James Brown, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Little Richard and Ella Fitzgerald. Jackson will be inducted alongside the big-voiced queen of soul, Aretha Franklin. The duo will be honored at a ceremony hosted by actor (and musician himself) Jamie Foxx on June 14. Additionally, Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony will be presented with the Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis Arts and Humanitarian Award. Congrats to Jackson, Franklin, Lopez and Anthony on their accolades, which are well-deserved.
Jackson had a long history with the Apollo, having won the theater's Amateur Night in 1967 along with his brothers as the Jackson 5. The group was signed after the performance and that's all she wrote. Or they wrote, as in wrote themselves into the annals of musical history for decades to come.
The gala will kick off at 6:30 PM with red carpet events; the awards ceremony will begin at 7:00 PM. A tented after-party at the Apollo Supper Club will follow.
Do you remember what you were doing when you found out the King of Pop had passed?
