The rare and elusive Michael Jackson will make his first big public appearance since he was acquitted of child molestation charges over a year ago. The eccentric pop star is scheduled to appear next month at the World Music Awards in London, where he will accept the Diamond Award, honoring artists who have sold more than 100 million albums.
"We are thrilled to be bringing the World Music Awards to London, the music capital of the world," said Melissa Corken, founder and executive producer of the awards. "The UK is the home of many of the world's greatest selling artists of all time. The presence of Michael Jackson is very exciting for us."
The awards ceremony will take place at the Earl's Court Arena on November 15th and will be hosted by another reclusive pop icon, Lindsay Lohan. Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Andrea Bocelli and Katie Melua are scheduled to perform during the ceremonies. Tickets to the World Music Awards can be purchased through Ticketmaster starting on October 31st.
In other MJ news, Mr. "Thriller" says he's collaborating with will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas on songs for a new album to be released sometime next year. "I like what he is doing and thought it would be interesting to collaborate or just see how the chemistry worked," Jackson said in an interview with Access Hollywood scheduled to air this week. "I think he's doing wonderful, innovative, positive, great music."
