The R.E.M. split is permanent, with former frontman Michael Stipe saying so! The band split in September, after 31 years of rocking, and Stipe is adamant that no reunion is on the horizon. Ever. File closed.

He said, "It's done. Of course (it's sad). It's bittersweet. (But) strangely liberating."

Stipe and ex-bandmate Mike Mills appeared on British political show Newsnight on Wednesday, where they discussed the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York. The conversation did eventually swing back towards the band and it's non-status, with Mills saying, "We feel very comfortable with what we have done." Can't argue there.

    What's your favorite R.E.M. song?
