Michel Gondry Directing Green Hornet

The Green Hornet has landed a new director. Stephen Chow bowed out of the project due to creative differences, choosing instead to just play the sidekick Kato. Michel Gondry, who has directed quirky, visually stunning fare like Be King Rewind, The Science of Sleep, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, will step behind the camera for the film.

Seth Rogen will play the title character and his alter ego Britt Reid. The actor has spent the past several months shedding excess pounds for the role.

After Chow elected not to direct the film, industry insiders worried the project might languish in development stages. With Gondry coming aboard, Columbia plans to make the film one of its 2010 banner releases.
