ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino sat down with director Gareth Evans, Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and Joe Trapanese to discuss The Raid: Redemption. Evans helmed the film, while Shinoda and Trapanese scored it.
In this exclusive video interview, we find out that it was the musician's first time scoring, and since he had to go on tour with Linkin Park during the shoot, he had to work from memory regarding the film. It might sound difficult, but he was psyched to do it that way, since he kept coming back to specific scenes for inspiration.
Shinoda reveals he created a palette of sounds as opposed to themes. As a result, he was able to dip into a bank of sounds for the score. It's interesting stuff, right?
Evans was quite happy with Shinoda's work and reference points. He also wants The Raid: Redemption to be a film that you watch completely. He doesn't want it to be an action adventure film where you skip to the blow 'em ups or the fights and then tune out.
