Scottish post-rock band Mogwai has announced a new album, Atomic, due out April 1 on Temporary Residence LTD in North America, and Mogwai's own Rock Action Records everywhere else. The album features re-tooled versions of tracks done for Mark Cousin's documentary Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise. It will be the band's first release since 2014's Rave Tapes.
To go along with the announcement, Mogwai has released the nuclear "U-235." The haunting track is bathed in glowing electronic sounds and strings, reminding listeners of the impending atomic powers that are the subject of the aforementioned documentary. Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise takes a look at Hiroshima and its aftermath. For more information, check out the imdb page.
It's a good time for all fans of post-rock as Explosions In the Sky just released their plans to unveil a new album, The Wilderness, on April 1. The band also revealed their new single, "Disintegration Anxiety." It's another piece of cinematic-type beauty from the Austin quartet.
