MTV Declines Pick Up Option on New Lauren Conrad Pilot

Lauren Conrad was planning a new reality show for MTV that focused on the development and growth of her fashion line, but the network has declined to pick up the pilot because it wasn't a good fit, literally. Conrad got famous because of MTV, so it made sense for her to return to the network, but alas, the deal is off the table.
Conrad sent EW an exclusive statement regarding MTV's decision: "We sold a show to MTV, filmed it and are really proud of the final result. MTV felt the subject matter was too high brow for their audience and offered me the opportunity to change the show by incorporating more of my personal life. We agreed going into the project that this show would be an aspirational one, focusing on my career and my goals and not my personal relationships. We delivered the show that we sold and are sorry MTV didn't feel their viewers were savvy enough to appreciate it."
Essentially, if I am reading accurately between the lines here, MTV wanted a retread of The Hills or Laguna Beach, complete with tears and lines of black mascara running down Conrad's face as she fought with Heidi Montag. Yawn. That's so 2008!
Would you have watched a show about Conrad struggling to get her fashion line off the ground? It seems that concept would be easier for viewers to relate to.
