MTV Launches MTV Music Meter 2.0 for Android, iOS Platforms and Web - It's exclusively sponsored by 5 gum

MTV announced the release of MTV Music Meter 2.0 across all Android, iOS platforms, as well as the web, with 5 gum, the premium gum known to Stimulate Your Senses®, as the inaugural sponsor.

MTV Music Meter allows fans to discover new music by ranking artists based on their overall buzz across digital and social, and then providing the option to listen to song samples, watch music videos, view photos, read news and biographies, and check out similar artists. Since its release in March 2011, the app has been downloaded more than a million times.

With the 2.0 release comes the arrival of new features, including the ability to discover where and when trending artists are performing near you with tour date integration provided by Songkick, the live music site that connects fans with their favorite artists so they are first to know about tour dates, as well as a new genre selector that allows fans to view artist rankings by music categories including: Up & Coming, Rock, Hip-Hop, Indie and EDM (electronic dance music).

The Music Meter 2.0 also brings ads into the experience for the first time, leaving behind the beta stage which attracted more than one million downloads since its 2011 launch. As the exclusive launch sponsor, 5 gum, kicks-off a yearlong integration with MTV Hive, with the app sponsorship including, exclusive banner content and an interactive tablet unit.

The partnership between 5 gum and MTV Hive, a MTV destination offering music fans original videos, interviews, mp3s, live events and more, supports the launch of 5 RPM, available in two flavors– a relaxing mint and an energizing fruit.

"With today's music fan having immediate access to millions of artists and songs, there's a strong need for curation," said Dermot McCormack, Executive Vice President, MTV Music and Logo Digital. "The meter helps solve this problem by cutting through the clutter and providing fans a easy-to-use discovery tool to connect artists and fans."

Originally launched as a standalone website December of 2010, MTV Music Meter quickly spread across multiple platforms including all Android, iOS platforms, Sprint ID packs and select Samsung connected televisions.

5 gum – known for bringing fans unique sensory experiences, joins MTV as the Music Meter sponsor. The app is now available for free update or download on the iOS Store and Android Marketplace can be found on Sprint ID Packs.
