Muse "Madness" Song Review — 5 out of 5 stars

"I have finally seen the light," claims Muse mainman Matthew Bellamy on "Madness" [iTunes link] from the band's forthcoming sixth full-length, The 2nd Law [Available October 1].
You will too as soon as you hear the song. Rather than skate along a familiar pond, the UK trio cracks the ice completely. Warbled and puckered electronic soundscapes reverberate as Bellamy's poetically potent lyrics sail off into a blissful oblivion. The electronics work in tandem with the drums, bass, and guitars for an all-together rapturous pastiche of sound.
There's an elegantly ethereal solo mid-song that flips the script, showing Muse still have more than a few surprises up their collective sleeves. "Madness" isn't like anything Muse have done thus far, and that's why it's so utterly refreshing. They're still setting trends instead of following them.
Once you see their "light", you may never be the same—and that's a great fucking thing.
