MySpace Layoffs on the Horizon?

Mashable reports that MySpace is planning to layoff a significant portion of its staff and that the shedding could affected up to half of the company's work force. MySpace's owner News Corp. has been making demands that MySpace management undertake "more drastic cost-cutting measures ... in the wake of MySpace's decreased revenue and traffic." That's about as black and white as it gets. The site's traffic and profitability are down and they don't look to be going back up.
MySpace has not commented on the layoff plans or speculations at this time. The site has continued to decline over the past few years, despite having once been the undisputed giant of social networking and music. Further rumors abound that News Corp. plans to sell MySpace.
When was the last time you checked your MySpace page? Did you migrate over to Facebook instead? I did. I just found MySpace and its layout to be so clunky and spammy and less fun to use.
