Actress Natasha Richardson, who was married to Liam Neeson, has passed away after a skiing accident that occurred in Montreal, Canada. Richardson was the daughter of legendary British actress Vanessa Redgrave.
According to reports, Richardson, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of her fall, suffered a late progressing head injury. It is not uncommon for people to suffer a brain injury and feel fine afterwards before exhibiting any serious symptoms.
Richardson was taking a skiing lesson on a beginner's slope under the supervision of an instructor when she fell. She initially refused to see a doctor and didn't appear to be seriously injured, and was laughing and talking after the incident. However, she eventually developed a serious headache and went to the hospital in Montreal as her pain increased. The actress was then flown to New York City, where she shared a home with Leeson and their two sons, and was admitted to Lenox Hill Hospital. Neeson left the set of the film he was working on in Toronto to be by his wife's side. Richardson's family elected to take the Tony-winning actress off life support on Wednesday, as she was suffering from swelling of the brain.
A statement released by Neeson's publicist stated: "Liam Neeson, his sons and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."
