Hip-hop hooray, yooo, ayyyyy, yooo! Naughty by Nature's Illtown Records has inked a distribution deal with Tommy Boy Entertainment to release an EP featuring two tracks from the forthcoming full-length, Anthem Inc., the first album featuring all three original members in over a decade. The EP will hit iTunes tomorrow, June 29. All other digital retailers have to wait until July 27 to have access to the tracks.
The EP includes the boom-bap, street styled track "I Gotta Lotta," which has been praised as "vintage Naughty." Its companion video recently took the net by storm with tens of thousands of views in just one week. Stream it on the new Naughty by Nature YouTube channel. Also on the EP is the club-infused track "Get to Know Me Better," featuring Pitbull, and the never before heard "Spanglish" version.
This is Naughty by Nature's second partnership with Tommy Boy. The group was signed to the label in 1991 for its self-titled debut and two following albums, 19 Naughty III (1993) and the Grammy award winning "Best Rap Album" Poverty's Paradise (1995) so a successful partnership has been exhumed.
In a statement, Tommy Boy Founder and CEO Tom Silverman said, "The idea of Naughty by Nature coming back to Tommy Boy is not exciting just because they broke here, but because they are one of the few classic hip-hop artists that have remained vibrant and relevant over the years and on stage, they are absolute rock stars." Naughty by Nature's Kay Gee added, "When we started in 1991, Tom Silverman and Tommy Boy were a great fit to lead us through the indie industry. Now in 2010, with the ever-changing record industry, Tom is one of the leaders shaping new technology and is at the forefront of today's new music business model. It only makes sense for us to reunite for this EP. Besides, nobody knows our brand better than Tommy Boy! They helped us build it." What is your favorite 1990s hip-hop act?
