Ne-Yo Rules the Charts

Pick a chart, any chart, and chances are that Ne-Yo is at the top of it. The 23-year-old R&B singer-songwriter has the #1 album in the U.S., In My Own Words, and the #1 song, "So Sick." "So Sick" also holds the top spot on Billboard's Pop 100 chart and debuted this week atop the Hot Digital Songs chart, while In My Own Words is also the #1 hip-hop/R&B album in the land.
Ne-Yo is no stranger to the top of the charts -- he co-wrote Mario's hit "Let Me Love You," which was the #1 song in the U.S. for nine weeks in 2004. But up until just a few weeks ago, he was a stranger to most pop music fans, which makes his sudden ascendency all the more remarkable.
Jay-Z, now the president of Ne-Yo's label Def Jam, described the young crooner's massive debut as "a wonderful thing" in an interview with MTV. "When talent wins, it's good for everybody," Hova proclaimed.
Meanwhile, an obviously dazed Ne-Yo called his rapid success "surreal." "I feel like at any moment I'm going to wake up in the living room at my mom's house on the couch, with her telling me to get my ass up....It's a dream, man."
Ne-Yo's next single, "When You're Mad," has already entered the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at No. 99.
